Animals in Winter

Friday, January 21, 2022 from 6:00 – 8:30 PM

Join us on this special nighttime excursion to explore the night life of the great horned owl, crawfish, and the red fox and the warmth of a campfire while you enjoy your smores. This program is a chance for visitors to experience the refuge outside, after dark, as it is normally closed then. Meet at the refuge headquarters to sign up.

This program was originally developed by Ranger Terri, she was inspired by the Christian book, “All Creation Awaits” by Gayle Boss. The book covers the lives of 24 animals found in Michigan and how they survive the cold winter.
We also need volunteers to help with this program in the following areas.
2 – volunteers for each of the three animal learning stations
2 – s’mores prep before
2 – s’mores table at fire pit – give out the s’mores and marshmallow sticks
1 or 2 – fire pit – get firewood, start fire, keep fire going and extinguish the fire at end. Will also need to have          water available in jugs, buckets in case needed.
1 – guide to sit/stand at end of boardwalk to give instruction to visitors, count visitors and make sure we are          practicing social distancing for COVID prevention.
2 or 3 Friends for membership table
1 or 2 – to work the Nature Stor
1 or 2 – Story Trail table (January’s story trail book is about an owl)
1 – “gopher” to trouble shoot and keep things going smoothly

See you their!
